We found out the appeal birth dad filed has been dismissed. Now we must wait until the end of May for the remittitur to take place...essentially for it to be legally binding that the appeal is not acceptable and adoption may proceed. Once that occurs, we will be able to sign the official adoption paperwork and hopefully have a court date within 2-4 weeks. Perhaps Sam will become a legal member of our family by June at the earliest. Everyone already considers Sam an official member of our family, and that won't change at all, but it will be nice for the adoption to take place, so Sam can have our last name and be added to our medical/dental insurance.
However, now my husband and I really need to start working on a middle name for our little guy. We will be keeping his birth first name (although changing the spelling...to the spelling we are used to...let's just say Sam's name was spelled two different ways on his medical card and paperwork in the beginning, so we went with one way, and technically his birth certificate has it spelled the other way) and of course Sam will be getting our last name. We haven't put a lot of thought into a middle name up to this point, but it is time to start pursuing that.
